Cumberworth First School is situated in the small village of Upper Cumberworth near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. It is a thriving village school that caters for children between 4 and 10 years of age and, as a Church of England Aided School, enjoys a close relationship with the parish church of St Nicholas. Our Church School status is central to the ethos at Cumberworth and it has a very positive impact on the development of our children, both academically and morally. Behaviour throughout school is excellent.
We offer wrap around care during term time. Sunshine Club offers on-site care from 7:30 – 9:00 and 3:30 – 6:00.
From the huge amounts of outdoor space, enhanced by an allotment area, adventure trail and outdoor provision space for Reception to our fantastic gym, well equipped ICT provision and well stocked library, the children have access to a great learning environment. Furthermore we are extremely proud of our nurture provision. Our Rainforest / nurture group is part of school’s PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) provision. The purpose of our Rainforest is to offer children opportunities to re-visit early learning skills and promote and support their social and emotional development. There is much research evidence to show that children’s learning is most effective when they have a sense of emotional wellbeing, good self-esteem and a feeling of belonging to their school community. Our nurture room provides children with opportunities to further enhance these feelings and helps them to develop their maturity and resilience. Rainforest is a place of learning where we provide unconditional positive reinforcement.
"The very wide variety of enrichment activities includes visits, visitors and a variety of sporting and creative activities which add depth and vibrancy to pupils’ learning." - OFSTED 2013
The child, with his / her individual and unique needs and talents, is at the heart of all we do in school. We recognise and celebrate their differences and strive always to support, encourage and stretch their minds and imaginations whilst they are with us.
We have 4 classes in school; one with Early Years (Reception) and Key Stage 1 children, one for Key Stage 1 pupils and two for Key Stage 2. Most children leaving us at the end of year 5 move on to either Scissett or Kirkburton Middle School. Our links with these schools continue to improve and we spend considerable time and effort working with them in order to ensure that the transition to a new school causes the least possible disruption to each child and their progress. On leaving the Middle Schools the majority of pupils transfer to Shelley College.
Please phone or call in if you would like to look around our school or have any questions you would like to ask.
